| Perhaps
more than anything else, Jerusalem is a city of learning: a city of yeshivot,
universities, book shops and libraries; a city of homes graced with large
collections of worn volumes. Jerusalem has been traditionally known as the
center of the world. Today it is the recognized center of the Jewish world
- and its effect on the individual who studies and lives there is as deep
as it is immediate. It is not surprising then that each year tens of thousands
of students visit Jerusalem. Some come out of curiosity - to tour. But others
come in search of knowledge - to stay and learn. Ohr Somayach Tanenbaum College, founded in Jerusalem in 1972, began as a response to a handful of young people who wanted to learn about Judaism. It quickly grew to be not only a respondent to the needs of the Jewish community, but an active initiator of new and innovative educational programs around the world. |
